Case Study: Dulcote Quarry, Wells, Somerset

Kilbride Properties Ltd wanted to change the use from a redundant 24ha quarry to a high tech business and industrial park and planning permission was required from Mendip District Council.

Corylus Planning and Environmental was the lead planning consultant and between Hydro-Logic Ltd and Premier Water Solutions Ltd a detailed Flood Risk Assessment, Sustainable Urban Drainage System and Foul Water Drainage Strategy was completed.

Specifically Premier Water Solutions Ltd was responsible for:

  • Identifying and obtaining permission to connect the calculated foul water into
    the nearest public sewer (Option 1)
  • Identifying and obtaining likely consent standards for the connection of treated
    foul water into the nearby watercourse (Option2)
  • Producing civil engineering costs for Option 1 and Option 2
  • Design of a soakaway SUDS system in the base of the quarry
  • Incorporating a surface water design to improve water quality
  • Design of rainwater recycling systems for the building
  • Water minimisation within the buildings
  • Logging of borehole water depths and surface water lagoon
  • Design drawings incorporating the design of the additional infill surface platform

Premier Water Solutions Ltd successfully removed the Environment Agency objections regarding the overall drainage strategy.
