Water Recycling

Rainwater is collected from roofs or paved areas by gutters and downpipes and stored in suitably sized underground tanks. When required, water is pumped to the point of use. In the process, volumes of water are kept out of the surface water disposal system, reducing the risk of flooding and reducing the amount of mains water used in the property.

The size of the storage tank is calculated by the roof size and localised average rainfall together with the likely amount to be used. Rainwater recycling will aid in obtaining compliance with the Code of Sustainable Homes which is likely to become mandatory in 2008.
